Oh my, today I got my ass handed to my in tiny, tiny pieces. 1500 points of my Tyranids faced off against a Necron force using the Wave assault Tyranid mission from the Battle Missions expansion. Four objectives more or less in the middle of the board, all Necrons were deployed in the around the objectives with two squads of Destroyers hanging back to act as a mobile reserve. I unwisely split my force into two waves of a Zoanthrope, 10 Genestealers and 17/18 Termagants each and a third packing the punch of two Carnifexes, a Lictor, 15 Hormagaunts and four Tyranid Warriors lead by a Tyranid Prime. Naturally, fate ensured that the third wave also was the last to deploy.
Highlights
- My first wave came onboard and was swiftly shot to pieces. The last three surviving Genestelars werelaid low by Scarabs (!) and the same Scarabs then tied up my Zoanthrope for most of the match until finally killing it off. Defeat by Scarabs, oh the humility!
- My second wave didn’t fare any better. The only permanent damage they managed was a single Necron Warrior. The ghastly T-101 wannanbees just teleported away as soon as they were assaulted and refused to stay locked in combat.
- The third wave managed a little better, destroying a total of 10 Immortals, a Necron Destroyer Lord and the surviving Scarabs before being annihilated by massed fire.
- On the sixth round, my sole surviving Carnifex was finally laid low by the very last of the Necron shooting. The kill was claimed by Necron Warriors who needed a 6 to wound!

Necron victory, 2-0 objectives and Tyranid forces completely massacred
